POBJFK High School Gymnastics Team

The Plainview Old Bethpage JFK High School Gymnastics team recently completed their undefeated season and went on to win the Nassau County Championships.

The team was previously a combined Bethpage/POBJFK Gymnastics team, with a history of 9 of the last 10 team championships and Section VIII ordered the breakup of that powerhouse team, determining that Plainview had a large enough student body to support its own team.

“The news that we were losing our Bethpage teammates made everyone uneasy,” said Ilana Simhon. “Despite this setback, Plainview was able to pull together as a team to have a successful season.”

The Hawks, with only 9 gymnasts, had an undefeated season and won the Nassau title at Roslyn High School. They earned the No. 1 seed entering the tournament and held it, topping defending champion Oceanside, 174.45 – 165.325.

“The girls worked hard and it came together for a great run,” said coach Debbie Rut. “I told them from the start that we’re small but mighty.”

Danielle Sadick took pride in wining the championship independently. “It feels so good to become our own team and win it all,” she said. “We proved to ourselves that we can do it.”
