Plainview Boys Lacrosse Falls To Syosset

The Plainview Hawks varsity boys lacrosse team (5-3) were defeated by the Syosset Braves (7-1) last Friday afternoon, 12-5 in Conference I play. The Hawks are the number six seed going into the playoffs, and the Braves are the number two seed.

Ending the first two periods with a 6-2 lead, the Braves’ defense reduced Plainview’s potential comeback to only one goal, while Syosset scored four.

Danny Desimone led the Hawks with two goals, followed by Shane Lanahan, Joe Trentacosta, Brent Epler, and Ryan Schenk with one goal each. Goalie for Plainview Alex Seitzer had 12 saves and Syosset’s Ryan Feit had six saves—goalie Gregg Myers had one save for Syosset as well.

Head coach for the Hawks, Chris Rogler, who has coached at Plainview JFK for 14 years, said that Friday’s game was a “cross-town rivalry—we’re right next door.”

“The challenge today was to play lacrosse for 48 minutes. We haven’t done it in a long time, but I think we showed today that we can play with the upper-level teams,” Rogler said.

Rogler has many seniors who were on last year’s team, most of whom had played football with him in the fall.

“The more they’ve played with each other, the better they gotten,” Rogler said. “They’ve figured each other out.”

Syosset head coach John Calabria, who has coached Syosset’s lacrosse team for 14 years as well, commended Plainview JFK for “doing a phenomenal job.”

“They played hard from the opening whistle to the final whistle, we got a couple of good looks in the third quarter and we were able to come away with it,” Calabria said.
