Plainview And Syosset Hospitals 10th Annual ‘Heart & Sole’ 5k Run/Walk


Runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes from all over Long Island and beyond  are cordially invited to come to Plainview on Sunday morning, July 21 for the 10th annual  Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run/Walk.  The event will once again be start and end at  Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School, on Central Park Road and Southern Parkway in Plainview, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The 2013 event is being held to honor the memory of  Dr. Gary Rachlin, and the net proceeds will be used to support the grant that has been established in Dr. Rachlin’s name, to fund family medicine research, scholarly activities and community outreach programs.

Dr. Alan Mensch, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs for Plainview and Syosset Hospitals and a long time member of the Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC), will serve as the Chairman of the event, and Ric & Kathy DiVeglio will be handling race management chores for GLIRC.

The Run will be preceded by the traditional quarter mile Fun Run for youngsters on the Middle School track , to help in the fight against childhood obesity.

The growing list of primary sponsors already includes Alure Home Improvements, Central Island Health Care, Huntington Hills Center for Health and Rehabilitation, Infertility Associates of Long Island, Kravet, Inc., North Shore-LIJ Imaging at Syosset, and the medical staffs of Plainview & Syosset Hospitals.

The event features a flat, fast USA Track & Field certified course, awards  for the top three finishers in 16 age-group categories, snazzy “technical” shirts for all entrants, ample post-race refreshments, and generous post-race door prizes.

This year’s event will feature one of the best post-race door prize drawings of any race on Long Island: two Round Trip Jet Blue tickets to anywhere that Jet Blue flies, and two flat screen, high-definition televisions

The Heart & Sole will once again utilize the new RFID timing system, with the chip built right into the bib number.  Nikita Dorcinvil of will be handling the computerized timing and scoring.
